My Reasons Why Jar

We all have our bad days—its inevitable. During one of mine, I decided to start a project that I had wanted to start for awhile, but never had the time or motivation. Now that I’ve actually done it, I couldn’t be happier with the end result! Anyway, I call it my “Reasons Why Jar.” It can be reasons why for anything—reasons why I need to keep fighting, reasons why I’m loved, reasons why everything is going to be okay, etc. it’s not a magical jar or anything—it’s actually just a amped up yogurt container. A little cleaning, some duct tape, some markers, and voila! My jar is complete 🙂

Anyway, what’s actually important is what’s in the jar. The little folded up pieces of paper may not seem like much to other people, but they are certainly special to me. They contain writing that is anything that inspires me or makes me feel better. It can be about anything since bad days can be the result of… well, essentially anything. There is only one rule: no negativity allowed in the jar—only positivity! This can range from quotes, Bible verses, to positive affirmations that I make up or have heard people say.

This can be an amazing way to distract yourself and place yourself in a positive mindset. Even making it and adding more content to the jar is a great way to gain peace of mind and helps to calm you down when you’re having a rough time. I have a photo album of sayings I want to add to my jar and if I’m in a writing mood, I’ll take it out and write until I am ready to face the world again. Sometimes, I’m not in the mood for doing anything, so I’ll read those that are already in there. I’ve already had plenty days where I grab the jar, pick out 5-10 pieces of paper, unfold them, and smile at the positive thoughts and joys of the world that I am reminded of.

I totally recommend doing something like this because I know it has helped me a lot! You don’t even have to do the same exact thing… some people have jars where they put things they’re thankful for or they add good things that happened throughout their day. Essentially, there are SO many different things you can do to make you feel better and distract yourself. It doesn’t have to even be in a jar—be creative!

Let me know some ways you encourage yourself during hard times or if you are going to do a project like this soon!!

  1. Hi Alyssa, l love this idea of making a Reasons Why jar. I have a Miracle Book, where l write down all the ways that God has moved things in my life. I go back and read my previous entries when l feel overwhelmed or afraid. I suffer from burnout and chronic depression so my Miracle Book is very comforting. Keep up the good work with your blog, l believe that God is using it to bless others and help them in their recovery from OCD and other sickness.
